Well, kids, there’s a new sheriff in town…. Not here. No, up in that vast cold territory to the north of us, the land of moose, beaver and ice hockey known as Canada. The country held a national election last week, in which the incumbent prime minister was ousted by a political dilettante. So, today’s Question is: Who is Canada’s prime minister elect? a.) Stephen Harper b.) Thomas Mulcair c.) Justin Bieber d.) Justin Trudeau   READ MORE
An American soldier was killed this week during a successful mission to rescue hostages held by the terrorist caliphate called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (also referred to as Islamic State, ISIS, ISIL, IS, Daesh and D’aesh). The death marks the first of a U.S. soldier fighting ISIS, and is the first U.S. combat fatality in Iraq since 2011. Please pause for a moment of silence for this brave soldier and offer a prayer, or moment of reflection, in his honor an   READ MORE
This week, Hillary Clinton sat before a House committee headed by Republicans to account for her role as Secretary of State during the September 11th, 2012 attack in Benghazi.  The tragedy of what befell 4 Americans that day is and should be a shock to the nation.  To watch a US Ambassador’s body being dragged out into the street was an affront to our national dignity.  That it is being investigated by Congress is not in of itself a partisan political act as m   READ MORE
President Obama Wednesday announced that the U.S. is deploying up to 300 military personnel to Cameroon for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations against the militant Boko Haram terrorist group. In making the announcement the White House emphasized that personnel would not take part in combat operations and would be armed only for self-defense.   READ MORE
A couple of debates in the books for the GOP and the Democrats have their first debate this week.  Whether you care to pay attention to the Democratic debates is up to you, but what remains to be seen is whether or not this debate will do anything to change the field.  For it is fascinating to consider that after two GOP debates complete, the GOP field is currently being led by non-politicians.  Trump is a businessman/reality star and Ben Carson is a neurosurgeon by trade.   READ MORE
Front-running Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is a dominant factor in the nation’s political news stream. And given that “news” can help make or break a candidate’s campaign, we decided to look at this month’s news feed to date in order to determine whether it is helping or hurting Hillary’s campaign. Of course, news can be biased depending upon the source, with some news coming from the left in hopes of helping her campaign, and some from th   READ MORE
Almost as assuredly as winter itself, gun control discussions are coming.  Politicians and would-be politicians have been weighing in on gun control in the wake of the most recent public shooting in Oregon.  Remarkably, for many, it seems that their view on gun control is less fluid than one might think.  There are people who think guns have no place in modern society and typically you can hash it out all day long with such people with little change in thought.  But among   READ MORE
The U.S. Presidential election is more than a year away, and yet the media has all but narrowed down the number of potential candidates to a dozen Republicans and a small handful of Democrats. As it stands today the Republican field is being led by a bombastic, P.T. Barnum-wanna-be style billionaire, who, it must be admitted, is mildly amusing. Leading the Democratic side is a career politician who has been pining for the White House since she was evicted from it in 1998.   READ MORE
The scientific community has been celebrating this week the revelation that flowing water has been found on Mars.  I guess this is a big deal, but for one reason or another I am less impressed.  The satire news site, The Onion, pretty much summed up my feelings when they wrote an article demanding NASA stop holding news conferences until they discover little green men.  I get it, there is water and water is needed to sustain life.  So if there is water, then there might b   READ MORE
Dear Islamic Extremists (Ansarullah Bangla,  Ansar al Islam Bangladesh and other groups targeting writers and cartoonists):  I understand that you have expanded your hit list of bloggers to be killed due to their written commentary that you believe to be offensive to Islam. So far this year you have successfully butchered four Bangladeshi bloggers, and have recently added nine more European and North American bloggers to your hit list.  Please add m   READ MORE
